Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo, professionally celebrated as Black Coffee, is a Grammy Award-winning South African DJ, record producer, and entrepreneur who has fundamentally altered the global electronic music landscape. Born in 1976 in Umlazi, his deep musical foundations were shaped while studying jazz performance, a journey that took a profound turn when a childhood car accident left his left arm permanently paralyzed. Displaying immense resilience, he retrained himself to engineer, produce, and masterfully mix records entirely with his right hand.

He broke onto the global scene in 2005 with a hypnotic, percussion-driven remix of Hugh Masekela’s jazz classic "Stimela," pioneering a sophisticated signature sound he describes as "Afropolitan House"—a rich blend of deep house structures anchored by traditional African percussion, organic melodies, and soulful vocals.
