Billy Knight

As the former Executive Vice President & GM of the Atlanta Hawks (2003-2008), Billy Knight understood that change and a total transformation were needed. He knew that change would not happen overnight. His fundamental belief was to develop one's own talent; and maintain enough financial room to acquire the best talent without handicapping the future of the franchise. By continuing to add the roster, the organization's aspirations of improving every year were realized.

Knight's Atlanta Hawks roster was reshaped with talented, long athletic players who are capable of playing more than one position. Knight was the person responsible for all aspects of the Hawks' Basketball Operations, including coaching, player personnel, contract negotiations, scouting and salary cap management; and the reorganization of the Basketball Operations department.

Prior to joining the Atlanta Hawks, Knight spent two years with the Vancouver/Memphis Grizzlies. While with the Grizzlies, he drafted Pau Gasol, who was the 2002 NBA Rookie of the year.

Before joining the Grizzlies, Knight spent five years as an Indiana Pacers executive. He served as the team's Senior Vice President for Basketball Operations in charge of pro, college and international scouting, and daily operations within the basketball department the last two years with Indiana.

Knight played 11 seasons professionally. He averaged 16.9 points per game throughout his career. Almost eight of his years were spent playing for the Indiana Pacers. He earned three All Star selections and is the Pacer's all time leading scorer. He is also listed in the team's "top five" in five statistical groups.

The Pittsburgh native graduated from Braddock High School and the University of Pittsburgh. He has previously competed as a ranked tennis player.

Born June 6 1952, Knight lives in Atlanta with his wife Danita, two daughters, Olivia and Erika, and dog Neko.
