Beth Goldberg

Beth Goldberg is an expert in digital security and the mitigation of online harms, serving as the head of research and development at Jigsaw, a Google unit focused on addressing threats to open societies. At Jigsaw, Goldberg leads an interdisciplinary team of researchers and designers investigating issues such as disinformation, violent extremism, and online harassment, applying artificial intelligence and behavioral interventions to inform safer technology products and policies. Her work has been featured in media outlets including The New York Times, Financial Times, and TIME, highlighting her role in shaping public discourse on digital resilience and democratic integrity.

Goldberg is also a senior fellow and lecturer at the Jackson School of Global Affairs at Yale, where she teaches graduate courses on artificial intelligence, information systems, and the societal impacts of misinformation. Her research includes digital ethnographies of conspiracy theorists, harassers, Islamists, and former white supremacists, providing insights for academia and the technology industry. Goldberg collaborates with academics, civil society, and policymakers, and has served on committees for the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to develop solutions for countering disinformation.

Before joining Jigsaw, Goldberg managed digital rights and security programs for organizations such as Freedom House, Amnesty International, and Article 19, with a focus on investigative journalism and information access in authoritarian regimes. She is a fellow of the Zeit-Stiftung Program on Global Governance and Humanity in Action. Goldberg holds graduate degrees from Yale University and a Bachelor of Science in international politics and Arabic from Georgetown University. Through her research leadership, public speaking, and teaching, Goldberg contributes to the global conversation on technology, democracy, and online safety.
