Ben Shelton

Ben Shelton is an American men's tennis player who has progressed from collegiate competition to the professional circuit. In his first season at the University of Florida, Shelton contributed to the Florida Gators' university championship victory. During his sophomore year, he won the national singles final and achieved the number one collegiate ranking. Shelton went on to win the NCAA men's singles championship and was named ITA National Player of the Year. Following his collegiate success, he turned professional after the Cincinnati Masters 1000.

Shelton's transition to professional tennis included a win over world No. 5 Casper Ruud in Cincinnati and three consecutive Challenger titles, which propelled him into the top 100. At the Australian Open, Shelton reached the quarterfinals with victories over Nicolás Jarry and Alexei Popyrin. He advanced to his first Grand Slam semifinal at the US Open, breaking into the top 20 of the world rankings. Shelton secured his first ATP Tour title at the Japan Open, a 500 event in Tokyo, by defeating Aslan Karatsev in the final.

Shelton continued his ascent by winning the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships over Frances Tiafoe, earning his second ATP Tour title and first on clay. He became the youngest player to win the tournament since Andy Roddick. Shelton has won seven ATP Tour singles titles, including two Masters 1000 trophies at the Canadian Open. He reached his first Grand Slam final at the US Open, following previous semifinal appearances at the US Open and Australian Open. Shelton was the first Black American man to do so since Arthur Ashe in 1972. Shelton has been ranked as high as world No. 5 in men's singles by the ATP.

Known for his left-handed serve, which can exceed 149 mph, Shelton is recognized as a leading figure in American men's tennis. He has held the No. 1 American singles ranking and is coached by his father, Bryan Shelton, a former ATP Tour champion. Shelton's career reflects a combination of athleticism, competitive experience, and a commitment to professional tennis.
