Bart Scott is a former NFL linebacker and sports analyst known for his transition from undrafted free agent to Pro Bowl selection. Scott played linebacker in the National Football League for 11 seasons, beginning his career with the Baltimore Ravens after playing college football for the Southern Illinois Salukis. During his senior year at Southern Illinois, Scott led the team with 127 tackles and 5.5 sacks, earning first-team All-Gateway Conference honors, a performance that drew the attention of NFL scouts and launched his professional football career.
Scott's tenure with the Baltimore Ravens began with contributions on special teams, but he later recorded 103 total tackles and 9.5 sacks in a breakout season, earning a Pro Bowl selection and second-team All-Pro honors. He signed a six-year, $48 million contract with the New York Jets, reuniting with former Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan, and became a key figure in the Jets' defense. Scott's leadership and performance contributed to the team's consecutive AFC Championship Game appearances. He helped the Jets finish ranked No. 1 in the NFL in total defense for the first time in franchise history. Over his career, Scott recorded 747 total tackles, 25 sacks, 43 pass deflections, and four interceptions.
After retiring from professional football, Scott transitioned into broadcasting, joining CBS Sports as a studio analyst for "The NFL Today" and other programs. He became known for his candid and insightful football commentary, including his memorable phrase "Can't wait!" delivered after a Jets playoff victory. Scott co-hosted ESPN's "Bart & Hahn" alongside Alan Hahn, further establishing his presence as an NFL commentator.
Scott also co-hosted the "Bart & Carlin" radio program with Chris Carlin on 880 AM ESPN New York and serves as a studio analyst on SNY's "Jets Post Game Live." He is a regular contributor to "The Jets Official Podcast" and serves as an analyst for "Jets Gameday," a weekly broadcast show available on WCBS-2 in New York, NewYorkJets.com, and YouTube. As a keynote speaker, Scott addresses topics including sports, broadcasting, football, sports journalism, entrepreneurship, and business.
Scott is involved in community initiatives, including founding "A Son Never Forgets," a foundation supporting individuals with paralysis. He has invested in his former neighborhood by purchasing land to build a playground near his grandmother's home and providing equipment and mentorship to students at his alma mater. Whether analyzing defensive schemes on air or advocating for his community, Scott brings intensity and authenticity to his work in professional football and sports media.
