Axl Rose Biography
Axl Rose is the lead vocalist and founding member of the hard rock band Guns N’ Roses, known for his wide vocal range, volatile stage presence and status as one of rock’s most iconic frontmen. Born William Bruce Rose Jr. in Lafayette, Indiana, he moved to Los Angeles in the early 1980s, where he co-founded Guns N’ Roses in 1985.
Rose rose to fame with the release of the band’s debut album, Appetite for Destruction, in 1987, which included hits such as “Sweet Child o’ Mine,” “Welcome to the Jungle” and “Paradise City.” The album became one of the best-selling records of all time and established Rose as a dominant figure in hard rock. He continued to shape the band’s sound and image with the twin albums Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II in 1991, showcasing a more expansive musical style.
Despite lineup changes and extended absences from the spotlight, Rose retained the Guns N’ Roses name and eventually reunited with key band members Slash and Duff McKagan in 2016 for the “Not in This Lifetime... Tour.” He also briefly fronted AC/DC in 2016 during their “Rock or Bust” tour. Known for his intensity, unpredictability and vocal prowess, Rose remains a defining figure in rock music.
