Awa Fam

Awa Fam Thiam is a Spanish professional basketball center who plays for the Seattle Storm of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Thiam previously played for Valencia Basket of Liga Femenina de Baloncesto. She began playing basketball at a young age, influenced by her siblings, and joined the Valencia Basket academy at age 12.

Thiam made her debut for Valencia Basket at 15 years old, becoming the youngest player to appear for the club. In her third career game, she recorded 11 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists for her first career double-double, finishing with a player efficiency rating of 23. Thiam appeared in 39 games during the EuroLeague and Liga Femenina Endesa tournaments, averaging 8.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 0.6 blocks per game. She recorded a season-high 17 points, seven rebounds, and three steals while shooting 63.6 percent from the field against Fenerbahçe Opet. Analysts have noted her ability as an interior scorer, with skills in the post, pick-and-roll, and finishing in traffic.

Internationally, Thiam has earned recognition at both youth and senior levels. She represented Spain at the FIBA U19 World Cup, averaging 10.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. In the gold medal game against the United States, she scored 11 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three blocks, earning a silver medal and a spot on the FIBA U19 World Cup All-Second Team. Thiam was named Most Valuable Player at the FIBA U20 Women's EuroBasket after averaging 11.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.6 steals per game, including a 20-point, 14-rebound performance in the final against France. At the senior level, Thiam became the first player under 20 years old to score 20 or more points in a FIBA Women's EuroBasket Semi-Final since 1989, helping Spain secure a victory against France. Her career highlights also include selections to the U18 Women's EuroBasket All-Star team and the FIBA U16 Women's European Championship All-Star team.

The Seattle Storm selected Thiam as the third overall pick in the WNBA Draft, making her the highest-drafted Spanish player in league history. This distinction was previously held by Raquel Carrera.
