Asta Philpot

Asta Philpot is a disability rights campaigner, actor, speaker, presenter, and writer whose work has challenged and reshaped public perceptions of disability. Born with arthrogryposis, a condition that impairs physical movement, Philpot has very limited movement in his hands and arms and operates his computer with a mouth stick. He has built a career as a public figure and advocate, channeling his experiences into disability advocacy, media, and public speaking.

Philpot was the subject of the BBC One documentary film "For One Night Only," which brought him international attention by advocating for the sexual rights of people with disabilities. The documentary chronicled his personal journey and sparked a global conversation about intimacy, autonomy, and the rights of disabled people. Inspired by his experience, Philpot organized a trip with others facing similar challenges in finding romantic or sexual relationships due to physical disabilities. This story became the foundation for two major films: "Hasta la Vista," a Belgian comedy road trip film that follows three men with disabilities on their quest to lose their virginity, and an American remake, "Come As You Are," starring Grant Rosenmeyer, Gabourey Sidibe, Ravi Patel, and Hayden Szeto, directed by Richard Wong and written by Erik Lindhorst. Both films have received recognition at international film festivals.

Philpot is also the founder of the US charity The Asta Philpot Foundation, which aims to spread a message of positivity, happiness, and empowerment to people with and without disabilities. The foundation has partnered with international organizations on campaigns such as "Beyond Appearances — The Diversity Song," a series of portraits challenging first impressions and promoting disability inclusion. In addition to his philanthropic work, Philpot is a singer, film editor, and IT expert, demonstrating a breadth of creative and technical skills. His screen credits include "Une Pointe d'Amour," as well as "Come As You Are" and "Adios Amigos."

Philpot hosts the podcast "Asta Vision," where he discusses disability, diversity, inclusion, and overcoming adversity, and interviews guests on topics related to happiness and resilience. As a keynote speaker, his topics span DEI, disability, diversity and inclusion, overcoming adversity, and media representation, making him a recognized voice in disability advocacy and inclusive media. Whether on screen, on stage, or behind a microphone, Philpot contributes to the global conversation around disability, identity, and human dignity.
