Ashley Caldwell

Ashley Caldwell is a freestyle skier who made her mark on the sport's history by becoming the first female to land a quadruple twisting triple backflip, a feat she accomplished at the 2017 World Championship in Sierra Nevada, Spain. She has participated in four Olympic Games and is a World Champion and World Cup Overall Globe winner. In the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, Caldwell was part of the gold medal-winning team for Mixed Gender Aerials alongside her boyfriend, Justin Schoenefeld, and teammate Chris Lillis.

Born and raised in Virginia, Caldwell moved away from home at 13 to pursue her passion for skiing. Her career in aerials began in 2008, and just three years later, in January 2011, she won her first World Cup aerials event in Lake Placid, New York. This win made her the youngest female ever to claim a World Cup event victory. Despite suffering back-to-back ACL tears and missing the 2012 and 2013 competitive seasons, Caldwell made a triumphant return to competition, securing a silver medal at her first World Cup event in China after her injury. In the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, she placed 10th.

In December 2014, Caldwell added another achievement to her resume by winning gold in the mixed-team aerials event in Beijing. Throughout her World Cup career, she has earned a total of 11 podium finishes and six wins. Between competitions, Caldwell also completed two graduate degrees in Real Estate and Legal Studies despite requiring three different surgeries due to skiing-related injuries.
