Asher Roth

Asher Roth is a rapper from Morrisville, Pennsylvania, recognized for capturing the spirit of suburban college life and influencing the development of the frat rap subgenre within hip-hop. Roth began his music career while attending West Chester University as an elementary education major, recording verses over popular beats and sharing his work through social media platforms. His early efforts attracted attention from major record labels, including SRC, Def Jam, Warner Bros. Records, and Atlantic Records.

Roth's debut single, "I Love College," served as the lead track on his first album and is widely regarded as the origin of the frat rap subgenre. The song reached number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified double-platinum, propelling his debut album, "Asleep in the Bread Aisle," to number five on the U.S. charts. Roth was featured on the cover of XXL magazine's annual Top 10 Freshmen: Hip-Hop's Class '09 issue, highlighting his emergence as a significant new voice in rap.

The frat rap subgenre, initiated by Roth's "I Love College," grew rapidly and achieved commercial success, paving the way for artists such as Mac Miller and Lil Dicky. Although initially defined by his breakout single, Roth has consistently emphasized the diversity of his music, distancing himself from being solely associated with party anthems and demonstrating a broader artistic range.
