Asher Perlman

Asher Perlman is an Emmy Award-, Writers Guild of America Award-, and Peabody Award-winning comedian, writer, cartoonist, and actor whose work spans late-night television, national magazines, and the live comedy stage. Perlman is a cartoonist for The New Yorker and served as a staff writer for "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert". He has been recognized for his contributions to American comedy and cartooning, with NPR's Scott Simon describing him as one of today's prominent New Yorker cartoonists.

Perlman's background in comedy developed through extensive training in improvisational theater. He performed theater and improv as an undergraduate at Lawrence University, then moved to Chicago to study at IO Theater, The Second City, and Annoyance Theatre. Perlman performed with the Improvised Shakespeare Company and Second City's touring company before relocating to New York to join The Opposition with Jordan Klepper as a staff writer. He later became a staff writer for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, earning multiple Primetime Emmy Award nominations and a Writers Guild of America Award.

Perlman's cartooning career began as a personal creative pursuit. He regularly posted original cartoons to Instagram and submitted work to The New Yorker, where his cartoons were eventually published. His single-panel cartoons often explore the awkwardness and nuances of modern life, focusing on work, relationships, and everyday experiences.

Perlman expanded his cartooning into publishing with the release of his debut book, "Well, This Is Me," a collection of cartoons published by Andrews McMeel. The book became a national bestseller. His second collection, "Hi, It's Me Again," features over 150 cartoons that first appeared in The New Yorker and on Instagram, along with new artwork and commentary.

In addition to cartooning and television writing, Perlman is active on the live comedy circuit, performing at venues such as The Bell House and The Kennedy Center. His short film, "Accountabilibuddies," was an official selection at the Just For Laughs Film Festival in Vancouver, and he has had two pilots premiere at the New York Television Festival. On television, Perlman has appeared on Comedy Central, CBS, and Pop TV. He co-hosts the comedy podcast "But Also" with Michael Cruz Kayne. Perlman's career bridges visual humor and comedic writing, establishing him as a versatile voice in American comedy, cartooning, and entertainment.
