Arnold Vosloo

Arnold Vosloo is a South African-born actor known for his work in film, television, and theater. Vosloo began his acting career in South African theater, earning several Dalro Awards for his performances in plays such as "Don Juan," "Hamlet," and "Môre is 'n Lang Dag." He became a regular performer with South Africa's State Theatre, where he played leading roles in productions including "Savages," "Twelfth Night," and "Hamlet." His film career in South Africa brought him the Dalro Award as Best Actor for both "Maneuvers" and "Circles in a Forest," as well as a Dalro Best Actor nomination for the film adaptation of "Môre Is 'n Lang Dag."

After moving to the United States, Vosloo continued to work on stage before gaining recognition in Hollywood. His breakthrough role came in the action-thriller "Hard Target," directed by John Woo and starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. Vosloo was cast after Woo saw him perform in a stage production of "Salome" in New York. He went on to star as the lead in "Darkman II: The Return of Durant," taking over the role from Liam Neeson, and reprised the character in "Darkman III: Die Darkman Die." Vosloo then took on the role of the lead villain in the fantasy horror film "The Mummy."

Vosloo is widely recognized for portraying Imhotep in "The Mummy" and its sequel, "The Mummy Returns," both starring Brendan Fraser. In these films, he played an ancient Egyptian high priest. "The Mummy" achieved significant box office success, grossing over $400 million. Vosloo approached the role with a grounded seriousness, collaborating with director Stephen Sommers to present Imhotep as a complex character. When "The Revenge of the Mummy: The Ride" opened at Universal Studios theme parks in Orlando and Hollywood, Vosloo and Fraser attended the openings to promote the attractions, which featured a life-size image of Vosloo as The Mummy.

Following the success of "The Mummy" franchise, Vosloo was cast as terrorist Habib Marwan in the fourth season of the Fox series "24," and appeared as a colonel in the Academy Award-nominated adventure drama "Blood Diamond." He appeared in 17 episodes of "24," making him one of the longest-running single-season antagonists on the show. Vosloo also portrayed Zartan, a Cobra mercenary and master of disguise, in "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" and reprised the role in "G.I. Joe: Retaliation."

Vosloo has appeared in television series including "Bosch" on Amazon Prime, "The Blacklist" on NBC, and "Jack Ryan" on Amazon Prime. He has also worked in South African productions such as "Griekwastad" on Showmax, "Ludik" and "Silverton Siege" on Netflix, and played Colonel Martin Bach in "The Condor's Nest." Vosloo divides his time working between South Africa and the United States, maintaining a career that spans stage, film, and television, with roles in action, drama, and thriller genres.
