Ari O'Neal Biography
Ariel O'Neal is a guitarist recognized for her performances on major stages in the music industry. O'Neal, a Maryland native, gained national attention after being selected from Instagram to play with Beyoncé at Coachella, a performance featured in the Netflix documentary "Homecoming." Discovered by Beyoncé's music director, Derek Dixie, this opportunity marked a significant milestone in her career, leading to further touring and performance engagements with artists such as Fantasia, Normani, Lizzo, and SZA. O'Neal's list of collaborators also includes Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Ariana Grande, and Nelly, establishing her as a versatile session and touring guitarist.
O'Neal began playing guitar at age 10 and, by 16, attended the Juilliard summer jazz program and completed high school. She continued her studies in theatre at community college and the University of Maryland College Park. Influenced by funk, rock, and jazz, with George Benson and Joe Pass among her inspirations, O'Neal's playing demonstrates proficiency across multiple genres.
Her performance credits include appearances on "Austin City Limits" with Jon Batiste, CMT specials with Nelly, the Grammy Awards, the Oscars, and a Democratic National Convention performance with John Legend and Sheila E. At the DNC, O'Neal contributed an electric guitar solo to Legend's rendition of Prince and The Revolution's "Let's Go Crazy." During her "Austin City Limits" appearance, she participated in a six-string duel with Batiste.
In addition to touring, O'Neal is a recording artist and collaborator, contributing to Raheem DeVaughn's "Ooh Wee" and performing with her band, LA'DY, whose music is featured on SiriusXM. She is the founder of "Off the Record: One Big Karaoke Party," a live-band karaoke experience hosted at venues throughout the Washington, D.C., region. O'Neal also serves on Levine Music's Council of Advisors, supporting music education and community engagement.
