Ari Aster Biography
Ari Aster is a filmmaker known for his work in the horror genre. Aster gained international recognition with the release of his feature films "Hereditary" and "Midsommar." The former was a commercial success, grossing over $80 million on a $10 million budget, and was hailed as A24's highest-grossing film worldwide. "Midsommar," on the other hand, was highly acclaimed and received a nomination for Best Screenplay at the 29th Gotham Independent Film Awards. In 2025, Aster's "Eddington," a contemporary Western black comedy, premiered in competition at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
Aster's creative ability extends beyond the horror genre. In 2023, he explored new grounds with the release of "Beau Is Afraid," which marked his departure from his signature genre. Co-founding a production company, Square Peg, with Danish producer Lars Knudsen in 2019, Aster further expanded his reach in the film industry. The company signed a first-look TV deal with A24 in 2021. He produced Kristoffer Borgli's film "Dream Scenario" starring Nicolas Cage and collaborated with animator Don Hertzfeldt on an animated feature film titled "Antarctica."
