Anne-Marie Slaughter

Anne-Marie Slaughter holds the current position of president and CEO of New America, following a notable career in both academia and public service. She served as the 25th Director of Policy Planning for the U.S. State Department from 2009 to 2011 under Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, becoming the first woman to hold this position. Prior to this, Slaughter was the dean of Princeton School of Public and International Affairs from 2002 to 2009. In addition to her public service and academic roles, Slaughter has held various corporate positions, including serving on the boards of the McDonald's Corporation and the Citigroup Economic and Political Strategies Advisory Group, and beginning her law career at the corporate firm Simpson Thacher.

Throughout her career, Slaughter has received several awards, including the Woodrow Wilson School R.W. van de Velde Award in 1979, the Thomas Jefferson Medal in Law in 2007, and the Distinguished Service Medal from the U.S. Secretary of State in 2011. In 2011, she was elected to the American Philosophical Society, indicating her significant contribution to scholarly research. Slaughter has served on the boards of numerous non-profit organizations, including the Council of Foreign Relations and the National Endowment for Democracy. She is currently on the global advisory board of Oxford University's journal "Global Summitry: Politics, Economics, and Law in International Governance".

As an author, Slaughter has made significant contributions to discussions on international relations, gender debates, and work-life balance. Her article "Why Women Still Can't Have it All" became the most popular article ever published in "The Atlantic," and she has authored several books, including "Unfinished Business: Women, Men, Work, Family" and "The Chessboard and the Web: Strategies of Connection in a Networked World". Slaughter has been a speaker at significant events such as SXSW and Ellevate's Power Luncheon, and her insights have been covered by major publications, including The New York Times and The Globe and Mail.
