Anna Chlumsky is an actress whose career spans film, television, and stage. Chlumsky first became known for playing Vada Sultenfuss in the film "My Girl" and its sequel, "My Girl 2," roles that established her as one of Hollywood's recognizable child stars. After an early appearance in the film "Uncle Buck," she starred in "My Girl," portraying the 11-year-old daughter of a widowed Pennsylvania mortician, with the story focusing on her character's connection to a boy named Thomas, played by Macaulay Culkin. The film, noted for its themes around family and loss, brought Chlumsky significant attention and led to lead roles in "Trading Mom" with Sissy Spacek and "Gold Diggers: The Secret of Bear Mountain."
Chlumsky later took a break from acting to attend the University of Chicago, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in international studies. After graduation, she worked as a fact-checker for the Zagat Survey and as an editorial assistant for a HarperCollins science fiction-fantasy imprint in New York City. Finding the publishing industry unsatisfying, Chlumsky returned to acting after completing formal training at the Atlantic Acting School in Manhattan.
Upon her return, Chlumsky appeared in several independent films, including "Blood Car" and "In the Loop," with her performance in "In the Loop" receiving critical attention. She played Amy Brookheimer, aide to Julia Louis-Dreyfus's character, in HBO's "Veep." For this role, Chlumsky received six nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series, highlighting her work in television comedy.
Chlumsky's television credits also include appearances in "White Collar," "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," and NBC's adaptation of "Hannibal." She appeared in the fourth season of AMC Networks' "Halt and Catch Fire" as Dr. Katie Herman and played Vivian Kent in Shonda Rhimes' Netflix limited drama series "Inventing Anna." Chlumsky also voices Charlotte Pickles in the Paramount+ revival of "Rugrats." On stage, she has appeared on Broadway in "You Can't Take It with You" and as editor Iris Peabody in the comedy "Living on Love."
