Andy Greenberg Biography
Andy Greenberg is an award-winning senior writer for WIRED, covering security, privacy, information freedom, and hacker culture. He is highly recognized in his field, having been named as one of the SANS Institute's Top Cybersecurity Journalist Award Winners in 2014, and claiming the Gerald Loeb Award for International Reporting in 2019 for his article "The Code that Crashed the World: The Untold Story of NotPetya, the Most Devastating Cyberattack in History." He also earned a Gerald Loeb award in 2023 for a feature article titled "The Crypto Trap: Inside the Bitcoin Bust That Took Down the Web's Biggest Child Abuse Site."
Among Greenberg's acclaimed works is his book "Sandworm: A New Era of Cyberwar and the Hunt for the Kremlin's Most Dangerous Hackers." "Sandworm" and excerpts from that book published in WIRED won a Gerald Loeb Award for International Reporting, two Deadline Club Awards from the New York Society of Professional Journalists, and the Cornelius Ryan Citation for Excellence from the Overseas Press Club. He is also the author of the 2012 publication "This Machine Kills Secrets: How WikiLeakers, Cypherpunks, and Hacktivists Aim to Free the World's Information," which The New York Times Book Review selected as an Editor's Choice in 2012.
Prior to joining WIRED, Greenberg served as a staff writer for Forbes magazine, during which time he was nominated for a Gerald Loeb Award in 2014 for the article, "Big Brother's Brain". His Forbes.com story "Meet The Hackers Who Sell Spies The Tools To Crack Your PC (And Get Paid Six-Figure Fees)" won the "Single Best Blog Post of the Year" award from the Security Bloggers Network in 2013. His influential article about Charlie Miller and Chris Valasek's Jeep hack led to the recall of 1.4 million vehicles by Chrysler. Greenberg's contribution to technology journalism extends beyond writing, as he was featured in the 2015 documentary film "Deep Web." He currently resides in Brooklyn with his wife, filmmaker Malika Zouhali-Worrall, continuing his work in technology journalism.
