Andrew Wiggins

Andrew Wiggins is a Canadian professional basketball player recognized for his progression from a highly regarded prep prospect to NBA champion. In his final high school season, Wiggins was named Naismith Prep Player of the Year and Gatorade National Player of the Year. After growing up in Canada and completing his last two years of high school in the United States, where he was named a McDonald's All-American, Wiggins attended Kansas. There, he was named a second-team consensus All-American, earned All-Big 12 first team and All-Big 12 Tournament first team honors, and set a Kansas freshman record for points scored in a season.

Wiggins was selected with the first overall pick in the NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers after one year with the Kansas Jayhawks. He became the second Canadian to be selected No. 1 overall in an NBA draft and was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves before playing a game for Cleveland. With Minnesota, Wiggins was named NBA Rookie of the Year and became the first Canadian-born player to score 40 or more points in an NBA game. During his tenure with the Timberwolves, the team made one playoff appearance.

A trade to the Golden State Warriors marked a turning point in Wiggins' career. He improved his three-point shooting percentage and was named a Western Conference starter for the NBA All-Star Game, his first All-Star selection. Wiggins became the first No. 1 overall draft pick in the modern draft era to earn his first All-Star selection in his eighth season or later. In the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics, he led the Warriors in rebounds and blocks and was the team's second-highest scorer, averaging 18.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game, while playing key defense. Wiggins won his first NBA championship after the Warriors defeated the Celtics in six games.

Wiggins became the first NBA player born in Canada to reach 1,000 career three-pointers made. He was later traded to the Miami Heat in a five-team deal. Over his career, Wiggins has appeared in more than 766 NBA regular season games, averaging 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 0.97 steals per game with a 44.9 percent field goal percentage. Off the court, Wiggins has supported youth athletic organizations through the Andrew Wiggins Foundation and has contributed to charitable causes, including donations based on his on-court performance. Wiggins is known for his versatility and resilience in professional basketball.
