Andrew Lownie Biography
Andrew Lownie was educated at Magdalene College, Cambridge, where he was president of the Cambridge Union, before earning a master's degree and a doctorate at the University of Edinburgh. Lownie is a fellow of the Royal Historical Society and later returned to Cambridge as a visiting fellow at Churchill College.
Lownie has worked as a bookseller and publisher and as a journalist for The Times, The Telegraph, The Wall Street Journal, The Spectator and The Guardian, and has run his own literary agency since 1988. He is president of the Biographers Club, sits on the board of Biographers International Organization, is a trustee of the Campaign for Freedom of Information and was one of the eight-man team that set up the Spy Museum in Washington, D.C.
Lownie’s books include the prize-winning, "Stalin's Englishman: The Lives of Guy Burgess"; the top 10 Sunday Times bestsellers, "The Mountbattens: Their Lives and Loves" and "Traitor King: The Scandalous Exile of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor"; and the No. 1 bestseller, "Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York," which led to Prince Andrew losing his titles.
