Andrew Chung

Andrew Chung is a technology investor and entrepreneur with more than 20 years of experience in sustainability and health technology investing. Chung has been involved with eight unicorn companies in sectors focused on positive global impact at Khosla Ventures and Lightspeed Ventures, contributing to the creation of over $30 billion in market value. As founder and managing partner of 1955 Capital, Chung leads investments in technologies addressing global challenges in sustainability, education, health, and emerging sectors. 1955 Capital launched as the largest venture capital firm debut in its quarter, with a focus on energy, food, agriculture, and other transformative industries.

Before founding 1955 Capital, Chung served as a general partner at Khosla Ventures, where he helped manage a leading sustainable technology venture portfolio and served as board director or advisor to more than 20 portfolio companies. He led Khosla’s China activities, facilitating cross-border collaborations to address environmental challenges and developing capital-efficient commercialization models for sustainable technologies in partnership with major Chinese industrial leaders. Chung also served as a special advisor to a U.S.-China presidential trade mission and participated in a White House roundtable on advanced manufacturing during the Obama administration.

Chung has delivered keynote talks at global conferences on topics including the future of food and energy, entrepreneurship, ESG investing, and U.S.-China relations. He is the founding chair of the Cleantech Board for The Indus Entrepreneurs and a long-time advisor to the Cleantech Open accelerator. Chung serves on the advisory board of Future Food-Tech and is a frequent guest lecturer at institutions including Harvard University, Wharton School of Business, Stanford University, MIT, Tsinghua University, Peking University, and the Paulson Institute.

Chung previously held investment roles at Bain Capital and TL Ventures, supporting buyout and venture investments in healthcare, software, and semiconductors, and worked as a management consultant with Bain & Company in Greater China. He co-founded UberWorks, an e-commerce platform acquired by NWKC.

Chung holds a Bachelor of Arts in applied mathematics from Harvard University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa with honors as a Detur Prize recipient, and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business. He serves on the Dean’s Advisory Cabinet at the Harvard John A. Paulson School for Engineering and Applied Sciences, sits on the Harvard Life Sciences & Innovation Task Force, and has served on the advisory board for the Wharton Initiative for Global Environmental Leadership.

Chung continues to speak at major industry events, including Future Food-Tech and Cleantech Open, and has been featured in leading media outlets for insights on sustainable innovation and global technology trends. He remains active in advising startups and global leaders on energy policy and sustainability strategies. Outside of his professional work, Chung is a musician who has performed as a vocalist and conductor at venues such as Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center, and enjoys photography, ski mountaineering, traveling, and baseball.
