Andrea B. Maier

Andrea B. Maier is a professor specializing in geroscience and longevity medicine, with nearly 25 years of experience in the study of aging. As a biogerontologist, internal medicine specialist, geriatrician, and international health policy specialist, Maier has developed an academic career across multiple continents. She holds the Oon Chiew Seng Professorship in Medicine at the NUS Academy of Healthy Longevity, National University of Singapore, and serves as professor of gerontology and human movement sciences at VU Amsterdam. Maier earned a doctorate in gerontology at Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands and is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

Maier’s career includes leadership roles at institutions such as Vrije Universiteit Medical Center, Royal Melbourne Hospital, University of Melbourne, and the National University of Singapore, where she directed the Centre for Healthy Longevity. She co-founded the NUS Academy for Healthy Longevity, focusing on research, education, and dissemination of geroscience and precision geromedicine. Her research centers on the mechanisms of aging and age-related diseases, leading international longitudinal cohort studies and geroscience interventions.

With more than 500 peer-reviewed publications, Maier’s research group investigates topics such as sarcopenia, cellular senescence, and their impact on age-related diseases. She serves as an advisor to international academic and health policy committees, including the Hevolution Foundation and the World Health Organization’s work on the United Nations Decade of Healthy Ageing. Maier is a past founding president of the Healthy Longevity Medicine Society, a member of the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities, a fellow of the Atria Academy of Science and Medicine, and a board member of the Academy for Health and Lifespan Research.

In clinical practice, Maier founded Chi Longevity, Asia’s first evidence-based precision geromedicine clinic, and established Maier’s Longevity in the Netherlands. Chi Longevity implements programs based on the Maier Method, which uses biomarkers of aging to offer personalized, evidence-based strategies for extending healthspan. Maier’s work aims to make longevity medicine accessible beyond traditional concierge models.

Maier is active in science communication, appearing on radio and television programs and authoring books to share aging research with broader audiences. She delivered a TEDx talk, "Targeting Health by Treating Ageing," advocating for treating aging as a disease to prevent illness and extend healthy lifespan. Her work emphasizes understanding molecular mechanisms of aging, age-related diseases, and the role of lifestyle interventions such as diet and exercise in slowing the aging process. Maier’s contributions span scientific research, clinical innovation, and public engagement in the field of longevity medicine.
