Amy Wu

Amy Wu is a journalist, author, documentary filmmaker, and entrepreneur recognized for her work at the intersection of agriculture and technology. Prior to launching her signature initiative, Wu spent more than two decades as an investigative reporter at media outlets including USA Today Network and Time magazine, and contributed to The New York Times, HuffPost, and The Wall Street Journal. She holds a bachelor's degree in history from New York University and a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University.

Wu's transition into agtech storytelling began when she was assigned to cover agriculture in California's Salinas Valley. There, she learned about the $10 billion agriculture industry in Salinas and observed the lack of women in the sector. This experience led Wu to apply for a grant from the International Center for Journalists, focusing on stories of minority women and business owners. She produced a documentary highlighting women working in the agtech industry, including those developing apps to simplify field operations and founders using artificial intelligence to improve food inspection processes.

Wu is the founder of "From Farms to Incubators," a multimedia storytelling platform that highlights the stories of women in agtech. The initiative includes a documentary short that has been screened at SXSW and a book, "From Farms to Incubators: Women Revolutionizing How Our Food Is Grown." The documentary has also been screened at Western Growers, the Steinbeck Festival, Carmel International Film Festival, Cal State Monterey Bay, EcoFarm Conference, and the Salinas Valley AgTech Summit. The content has been featured in USA Today and The New Food Economy, and the project has received grants from the International Center for Journalists and the International Women's Media Foundation.

Wu's work has been recognized in both journalism and agriculture. She was named on Worth magazine's "Groundbreakers 2020 list of 50 Women Changing the World," received the Women in Agribusiness Demeter Award of Excellence, and was named by Food Tank as one of "27 Inspiring Women Reshaping the Food System." She has served as a keynote speaker at international events, including the InFlavour conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Her university speaking tours have taken her to campuses across California and beyond, where she engages students in environmental studies, gender studies, and engineering.

"From Farms to Incubators" has evolved into a multimedia platform amplifying the work of women innovators and entrepreneurs in the agri-food technology sector, and offers a mentorship program for college students and early-career professionals. Wu continues to focus on telling the stories of women in agtech and women of color, building a digital community for industry connection, and supporting education through internship and mentoring programs.
