Amy Nelson

Amy Sterner Nelson is an entrepreneur, attorney, and writer recognized as the founder and CEO of The Riveter, a venture-backed national platform focused on advancing women in the workplace. Nelson launched The Riveter in Seattle, raising $30 million to develop a work and media community for Millennial and Gen X women. The Riveter, named after Rosie the Riveter, serves as a national membership network offering community, content, resources, and coworking spaces designed to support professional women at all stages of their careers.

Before founding The Riveter, Nelson built a career in law and public service. A graduate of Emory University and NYU School of Law, she practiced corporate litigation with an emphasis on First Amendment matters in New York City and Seattle. Nelson also served on President Obama's National Finance Committee, co-chairing Gen44, the under-40 fundraising arm of the campaign, and previously worked with The Carter Center. Her experience in law, civic engagement, and entrepreneurship informs her perspective on the challenges facing women in the workplace and the development of platforms supporting working women.

Nelson is among the American women who transitioned careers, launching a venture-backed company while pregnant with her third daughter after a decade as a litigator. She has shared her insights with women globally and was named one of Inc.'s 100 Female Founders. Prior to founding The Riveter, Nelson was an investment partner at XFactor Ventures, investing in pre-seed and seed stage rounds and providing guidance to early-stage companies.

Nelson is the co-host of the podcast "What's Her Story With Sam & Amy" with entrepreneur Samantha Ettus. The podcast, distributed by iHeartMedia, features interviews with women leaders such as Gloria Steinem, Abby Wambach, Randi Zuckerberg, Huma Abedin, and Melinda Gates. As an author, Nelson has been published in Inc. Magazine and Forbes. She is a keynote speaker on topics including women's economic empowerment, the future of work, and entrepreneurship.
