Amy Hennig

Amy Hennig is a video game designer, writer, and director known for her contributions to the interactive entertainment industry. Hennig is recognized as the creator of the "Uncharted" series, a franchise that has influenced cinematic storytelling in video games. Over her career, she has worked as an artist, animator, game designer, and, for more than two decades, as a writer and director. Hennig entered the industry after leaving film school, drawn by the creative opportunities in video game development.

Hennig began her career at Crystal Dynamics, where she directed games and contributed to scriptwriting. She started as design manager for "Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain" for PlayStation, helping to establish the game as a franchise. Hennig co-wrote and developed a script for a project initially called "Shifter," which evolved into "Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver." On this project, she served as producer, director, designer, and writer, and the game’s success led to multiple sequels. Hennig remained at Crystal Dynamics before joining Naughty Dog as creative director.

At Naughty Dog, Hennig served as head writer and creative director for the "Uncharted" series, writing and directing "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune," "Uncharted 2: Among Thieves," and "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception" for PlayStation 3. The "Uncharted" series received multiple BAFTA Awards, including recognition in Action, Use of Audio, Original Score, and Story categories for "Uncharted 2: Among Thieves." Hennig’s work on the series also earned her two consecutive Writers Guild of America Videogame Writing Awards.

Hennig has received the BAFTA Special Award for her contribution to the video game industry and the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Game Developers Choice Awards. After leaving Naughty Dog, she worked at Electronic Arts on a Star Wars project titled "Project Ragtag" before the project’s cancellation. Hennig later founded her own studio focused on virtual reality games and subsequently joined Skydance New Media to lead new action titles.

At Skydance New Media, Hennig has focused on developing story-driven games for both traditional gamers and new audiences, including projects for streaming platforms. Skydance New Media announced a collaboration with Marvel Entertainment to produce an action-adventure game set in the Marvel Universe, titled "Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra." The studio also announced a partnership with Lucasfilm Games to develop a narrative-driven, action-adventure game featuring an original story in the Star Wars galaxy, with Hennig as project lead. Hennig’s work continues to influence video game storytelling, narrative design, and the evolution of interactive media.
