Allison Compton

Allison Compton is a Paralympic bronze medalist, motivational speaker, and leader in adaptive sports. Compton was born with an underdeveloped femur, resulting in her right leg being half the size of her left. Her parents chose a complex surgical procedure after observing her use her small foot as a baby to stabilize herself, which proved to be a medical success. Growing up in Manhattan Beach, California, Compton participated in volleyball on the beach, in elementary school, and on her competitive Division 1 high school team, never allowing her prosthetic leg to limit her involvement in sports.

Compton's journey to the Paralympic stage was unconventional. With no U.S. Paralympics volleyball team for women, she began training with the men's team at age 18 and became the first woman to join the Men's U.S. Paralympic Volleyball Team. Although she made the official men's roster for the Sydney Games, she was denied the opportunity to compete based on her gender. Working with USA Volleyball and the United States Olympic Committee, Compton helped form a women's Paralympic volleyball team in time for the Athens Games. After four years of preparation, the Paralympic Games included a Women's Sitting Volleyball competition for the first time, and Compton led her team to a bronze medal victory in Athens.

The U.S. Women's Team has medaled in every Paralympics since. After seven years of competition, Compton retired and transitioned to a career as a businesswoman and speaker, sharing her experiences in adaptive sports, disability advocacy, and leadership. Her keynote addresses focus on resilience, inclusion, and turning obstacles into opportunities, resonating with corporate, educational, and athletic audiences.

Compton's impact extends beyond public speaking. As Director of Adaptive Sports for P1440, she advances ParaVolley and adaptive athletics, particularly in preparation for the Los Angeles Paralympics. She also serves on the LA28 Athletes' Commission, a strategic advisory group that brings athlete perspectives to the planning and delivery of the Games. Through her athletic achievements, advocacy, and leadership, Compton continues to influence the landscape of adaptive sports and inspire athletes with disabilities.
