Ali Truwit

Hailing from Darien, CT, Ali Truwit is a Team USA Paralympic swimmer, advocate, and founder dedicated to empowering individuals with limb loss. A former Yale University swimmer and four-year letter winner, Truwit made waves early on in her career, finishing 10th in the 1000-yard and 1650-yard freestyle at the 2019-20 Ivy League Championship and winning the 1650-yard freestyle at the 2018 Speedo Sectionals.

Just two days after graduating from Yale in 2023, Truwit survived a shark attack that resulted in the loss of part of her leg. Thanks to the quick actions of her former teammate who applied a tourniquet to her leg, Truwit’s resilience and determination took center stage. Less than a year later, she defied the odds and qualified for the 2024 Paris Paralympics, where she became a 1-time Paralympian and 2-time Paralympic medalist, earning silver in both the 400m Freestyle S10 and 100m Backstroke S10. She also holds two American records in the 400m Freestyle S10 and 100m Backstroke S10 and secured a second-place finish at the 2024 European Open Championships (400m Freestyle S10).

Beyond the pool, Truwit is a passionate advocate for inclusion and water safety. She founded Stronger Than You Think, a nonprofit dedicated to providing opportunities and resources to individuals with limb loss while promoting water safety education. During her time at Yale, she served as co-President of the Yale Women's Athletic Council and co-President of the Yale chapter of The Women's Network, demonstrating her commitment to leadership and empowerment.

Truwit has also embraced her passion for baking, where she founded Truwit’s Treats. Her inspiration has led to major partnerships with Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, Utz, and Speedo, and she was recently a featured speaker at Forbes’ Global Strategy Meeting.

With her relentless drive and commitment to making a difference, Truwit continues to inspire both in and out of the water, proving that strength is about far more than physical ability.
