Alex Dekker

Alex Dekker served as a member of the U.S. Army Special Forces, Green Berets, for 20 years, first with the 5th Special Forces Group and then as a special operations team member assigned to the U.S. Army Special Operations Command. Dekker deployed multiple times to Iraq, Afghanistan and other locations worldwide, and attended multiple advanced tactical and technical schools within the U.S. special operations community and the interagency.

Dekker faced multiple challenges throughout his career, including returning to duty after being wounded by a Taliban hand grenade and transitioning from the Army to a career as an author. Dekker has traveled to dozens of countries for work and personal adventures and spent years living abroad. He is an avid student of history, speaks Arabic and holds a master's degree in applied intelligence from Georgetown University.

Dekker's debut novel, "Desert Heist," was published in July 2026 by Emily Bestler Books of Atria/Simon & Schuster. The first in a series, it has been endorsed by Jack Carr, David McCloskey, Steve Berry, Gregg Hurwitz and many others. Dekker's areas of expertise include special operations, geopolitical affairs, resiliency, leadership, military transition and the writing and publishing process. Dekker has participated in panels at ThrillerFest and Bouchercon and in more than 20 interviews and podcasts.
