Alejandra Kamiya

Alejandra Kamiya is a Japanese-Argentine writer whose work occupies a unique space in contemporary Latin American literature. A second-generation Japanese author born in Argentina, Kamiya studied in Abelardo Castillo's workshop and has developed a voice noted for its precision, restraint, and emotional depth. Her writing unites Argentine and Japanese cultures, exploring themes of hyphenate identity, migration, and the complexities of unspoken experience.

Kamiya has published "Los que vienen y los que se van: historias de inmigrantes y emigrantes en la Argentina," "Los restos del secreto y otros cuentos," "Los árboles caídos también son el bosque," "El sol mueve la sombra de las cosas quietas," and "La paciencia del agua sobre cada piedra." Her stories have received recognition including first place in the Cencosud Short Story Contest, the UCA–SUTERH Story Contest, the Buenos Aires Book Fair Story Contest, the Fondo Nacional de las Artes Story Prize, the Metovías Story Prize, the Max Aub Story Prize, the Premio Horacio Quiroga, the Premio Unicaja, and the Konex Award.

"The Fallen Trees Are Also the Forest," a collection of twelve stories, blends the beautiful and the unsettling in everyday life. Kamiya's prose is marked by its subtlety, illuminating silent emotions and exploring what is named, spoken, and left unsaid. Set between Japan and Argentina, these stories of loss and exile examine deep emotional truths and moments of revelation. "The Fallen Trees Are Also the Forest" is her first book translated into English.
