Alan C. Mack

CW5 Alan C. Mack is a retired U.S. Army Master Aviator and decorated helicopter pilot with more than 36 years of military service. He began his career as an Army helicopter mechanic after high school before advancing to Warrant Officer flight school at Fort Rucker, Alabama, where he earned qualifications in both the UH-1H Huey and CH-47D Chinook.

Throughout his early career, Mack was stationed in Korea, West Texas, Germany, and Georgia, where he served as a copilot during Operation Desert Shield and later flew combat missions during operations in Iraq. He quickly advanced to Pilot-in-Command and became a Night Vision Goggle Unit Trainer, later progressing to Instructor Pilot roles and returning overseas for additional assignments in the Republic of Korea.

Mack later joined the U.S. Army’s special operations aviation community as an MH-47 pilot, where he served as a Flight Lead and standardization instructor pilot. In this role, he participated in highly sensitive missions and advanced to the top of his peer group, earning a reputation for leadership, technical expertise, and operational excellence in demanding environments.

One of the few Warrant Officers entrusted with command responsibilities, Mack was selected to lead the United States Military Academy Flight Detachment at West Point. Over his career, he accumulated more than 6,700 flight hours, including over 3,200 hours using night vision goggles, and earned numerous decorations including the Legion of Merit, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, three Bronze Star Medals, and ten Air Medals, one with Valor.

Following his retirement from military service, Mack transitioned into public service and now serves as Deputy Commissioner of Emergency Services for Orange County, New York. He is also the author of the memoir "Razor 03: A Night Stalker’s Wars."
