Adrienne Brodeur

Adrienne Brodeur is a bestselling author, editor, and literary advocate whose career spans more than three decades in American literature. Brodeur began her publishing career as a reader for The Paris Review, where she evaluated unsolicited manuscripts and gained foundational experience in literary editing. She later co-founded the quarterly literary magazine "Zoetrope: All-Story" with filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, serving as founding co-editor and later editor-in-chief. The publication emphasized short fiction, one-act plays, and essays on film, and introduced a two-year film option for writers to encourage cinematic adaptations. The magazine has received the National Magazine Award for best fiction four times.

Brodeur became an editor at Harcourt HMH Books, acquiring and editing literary fiction and memoir. She transitioned from publishing to become creative director of Aspen Words and currently serves as executive director. Brodeur launched the Aspen Words Literary Prize, a $35,000 annual award recognizing influential fiction that addresses contemporary issues and demonstrates literature's impact on culture and thought. She has also served as a judge for the National Book Award. Her essays have appeared in Glamour, O Magazine, The New York Times, Vogue, and other major publications.

Brodeur is the author of the memoir "Wild Game: My Mother, Her Lover, and Me," which became a national bestseller. The memoir explores her experience as a teenager when her mother confided in her about an affair, a secret that shaped Brodeur's life and relationships. Brodeur has described the writing process as taking two and a half years and requiring significant personal reflection. "Wild Game" received the New England Society of New York Book Award in nonfiction, was named one of the 10 best books of the year by People, and was recognized as a best book of the year by Amazon, NPR, and the Washington Post. Film rights for the memoir were acquired by Chernin Entertainment, with Nick Hornby attached to the screenplay.

Brodeur is also the author of the novel "Little Monsters," a New York Times Editors' Choice that explores themes of family and personal dynamics. Both "Little Monsters" and "Wild Game" are in development as films. Throughout her career, Brodeur has contributed to the fields of literary fiction, memoir, and publishing, and continues to influence contemporary American literature through her editorial leadership and writing.
