Adrian Furnham

Adrian Furnham is a psychologist recognized for his contributions to occupational psychology and health psychology. Furnham served as Professor of Psychology at University College London for more than 45 years and is a Professor of Management at Norwegian Business School. He has lectured at institutions including Pembroke College Oxford, University of New South Wales, University of the West Indies, Hong Kong University Business School, and Henley Management College. Furnham completed a doctorate at Oxford and later received a DSc from London and a DLitt from Natal, reflecting his academic background across multiple disciplines.

Furnham’s research spans applied, economic, health, occupational, social, and differential psychology. He has published more than 1,300 scientific papers and 95 books. Notable works include "The Protestant Work Ethic," "Personality at Work," "The Psychology of Behaviour at Work," "The Dark Side of Behaviour at Work," "The Elephant in the Boardroom," and "50 Psychology Ideas You Really Need to Know." Many of these books have been translated into several languages, including Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Russian. Furnham founded Applied Behavioural Research Associates, a management consultancy specializing in corporate evaluation and design, performance appraisal, and personnel and corporate assessment and selection. He has consulted for more than 20 major international companies, focusing on top team development, management of change, performance management systems, psychometric testing, and leadership development.

Furnham co-developed the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire with Dino Petrides and the High Flyer Trait Inventory with Ian Macrae, both of which are used to assess personality traits relevant to workplace behavior and emotional intelligence. He is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society, a Member of the American Psychological Association, and has been recognized among the Top 200 Psychologists of all time. Furnham was elected Fellow of the Leadership Trust, Academician of the Learned Society of the Social Sciences, and received the British Psychological Society Award for Academic Contribution.

Furnham serves on the editorial boards of several international journals and is a past elected President of the International Society for the Study of Individual Differences. He has been recognized by HR Magazine as one of the 20 Most Influential People in HR. His expertise has been featured on the TEDx stage, where he discussed "Debunking the Myth That Intelligence is Gender-Based." Furnham has written for Financial Times, Guardian, Telegraph, Daily Mail, Times Higher Education Supplement, and Sunday Times, and contributed to magazines including The Spectator, Personnel Management, and New Scientist. He is also a regular contributor to national and international radio and television channels such as BBC, CNN, and ITV. Furnham is known for his work on the psychology of work, leadership, and human behavior, providing insight into organizational psychology and management.
