Adam Eaton

Adam Eaton is a former Major League Baseball (MLB) outfielder who spent 10 seasons in the league, recognized as a tenacious leadoff hitter and versatile defender. Eaton played for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago White Sox, Washington Nationals, and Los Angeles Angels. Drafted by the Diamondbacks in the 19th round of the MLB Draft out of Miami University in Ohio, Eaton earned the Pacific Coast League Most Valuable Player Award before making his MLB debut. At the collegiate level, Eaton was a two-time All-Mid-American Conference honoree, earning first-team accolades and second-team All-Mideast Region recognition, and he remains Miami's single-season and career triples record holder.

Eaton established himself as a dynamic force in the American League (AL) during his time with the Chicago White Sox. Known for his speed, defense, and leadoff hitting, he led the American League in triples twice and ranked in the top 10 in triples four times during his career. Defensively, Eaton led the AL in outfield assists and putouts, while finishing in the top four for double plays turned as an outfielder in two seasons. His play earned him recognition as a Gold Glove finalist, and during spring training, Eaton and the White Sox agreed to a five-year contract extension worth $23.5 million, with options for two additional years.

Eaton's career was defined not only by his accomplishments but also by his resilience in the face of serious injury. In his first season with the Washington Nationals, Eaton suffered a torn ACL, a torn meniscus, and a sprained ankle, causing him to miss the remainder of the season. He returned the following year and battled through additional setbacks, ultimately playing a key role in Washington's championship run. Eaton hit .320 with two home runs and six RBIs to help lead the Nationals to the World Series title, including a two-run, bases-loaded single in the ninth inning that helped clinch the Game 7 victory against the Astros.

Over the course of his career, Eaton compiled a .276 batting average with 950 hits, 66 home runs, 319 RBIs, and 87 stolen bases over 914 games. After confirming his retirement, Eaton transitioned into coaching by joining Michigan State University as the director of player development for the Spartans baseball team. In that role, Eaton served as a coaching staff liaison with input on the development of outfield play, baserunning, and hitting. He has spoken openly about how being a smaller player forced him to think the game differently.

The Los Angeles Angels later hired Eaton to serve as the team's first base coach under manager Kurt Suzuki, bringing his World Series experience and coaching insight back to Major League Baseball.
