Ada Tsang

Ada Tsang Yin-hung is a Hong Kong mountaineer recognized for her achievements in high-altitude climbing and her transition from education to adventure sports. A former life education teacher at a secondary school, Tsang made a commitment to her students to climb Mount Everest as a demonstration of pursuing ambitious goals. At the time of her promise, she had no prior mountaineering experience. Tsang, who participated in athletics during her school years, began serious climbing in 2010, undertaking years of intensive training in ice and rock climbing and long-distance running to enhance her fitness for mountaineering.

Tsang's journey to the summit of Mount Everest involved significant challenges. Her initial attempt was halted when the Nepalese government canceled all activities on the mountain following an avalanche. On her second attempt, an earthquake in Nepal triggered another avalanche, resulting in the deaths of five teammates and causing Tsang serious head and chest injuries, including a fractured skull. After a six-month recovery, Tsang returned to Everest and became the first woman from Hong Kong to reach the summit on her third attempt, having left her teaching position to focus on mountaineering.

Tsang continued to set records in the field of mountaineering. She became the fastest woman to climb Mount Everest, completing the ascent in 25 hours and 50 minutes, surpassing the previous record by more than 12 hours. Unlike most climbers who acclimatize at various camps, Tsang made a non-stop ascent from base camp, overcoming challenging wind conditions near the summit that required her team to retreat before making a successful second push.

In addition to her mountaineering accomplishments, Tsang is a public speaker who addresses topics such as resilience, perseverance, and leadership. She shares insights from her experiences with audiences internationally, emphasizing the importance of setting high goals and leading by example. Tsang's story highlights overcoming adversity, physical challenges, and self-doubt to achieve significant milestones in mountaineering and serves as an example within the adventure sports and motivational speaking communities.
