Katie Brown has built a brand based on the belief that “keeping it simple” will encourage her audience. With her Midwestern charm and girl-next-door persona, she puts them at ease and takes them on a journey of discovery on how to build a sense of tradition and community, and how to implement innovative ways to make their house a home.
People Magazine hailed Katie as, “TV’s meat-and-potatoes Martha Stewart.” The New York Times wrote “this Midwesterner, poised to take over for Martha Stewart, is as solid and unpretentious as her cherry red clogs and pockmarked dining table.” “She is the friend next door who also happens to be an expert cook, decorator and gardener,” says Amy Maclin, who edits Katie’s New York Times Syndicate column. “She makes each project an adventure and really infuses everything with her own spirit, with anecdotes about her life and childhood.”
Katie is a friend to the viewer. As opposed to a professor, Katie shows off her imperfections while other lifestyle divas hide them. Katie is the lifestyle maven for those who want fast, easy projects and recipes that yield sensational results without breaking the bank. “I am all about shortcuts,” Katie says. “Maybe you only have time to pick up a store-bought cake, but if you add some beautiful organic, edible flowers, then you’ve made it yours – and that makes all the difference.”
Starting in April 2006, Katie will bring her signature style to a new show on Public Television, Katie Brown Workshop. Each weekly half-hour episode will be divided into three main segments: cooking, gardening, and decorating. This series will be filmed in her real life workshop, assisted by her real life workshop team. Each episode will address one universal topic and Katie will present 3 quick, easy, affordable, fun and unique solutions.
Katie Brown is a nationally recognized television personality and frequently appears on Oprah, Good Morning America, Live with Regis & Kelly, and The Tonight Show. Katie has also hosted shows on Lifetime, A&E, and the Style Network. Katie is also a best selling author who has signed a 4-book deal with Time Warner’s Bulfinch Imprint, the first of which, Katie Brown’s Weekends is in bookstores now. Katie Brown’s weekly column with the New York Times Syndicate can be found in newspapers across the country.
