Dr. George S. Everly, Jr. Biography

George S. Everly Jr., PhD, ABPP, FAPA, FAPM, is an American psychologist, academic, and author recognized for his contributions to disaster mental health, psychological crisis intervention, and human resilience. Everly completed specialized fellowship training in behavioral medicine at Harvard University and an internship in clinical psychology at Johns Hopkins Homewood Hospital. He has held a professorship at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and served as a part-time associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Everly has been identified by BioMed Experts as one of the world's top 10 authors in psychological crisis intervention, disasters, and human resiliency.

Everly co-founded the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation with Jeffrey T. Mitchell, an organization admitted to the United Nations as a non-governmental organization under the Economic and Social Council. The foundation provides education, training, and consultation on crisis intervention, psychological trauma, and disaster mental health for emergency services professionals worldwide. Everly has participated in the CDC Mental Health Collaboration Committee, chaired the mental health competency development sub-committee, and served on the Infrastructure Expert Team within the US Department of Homeland Security. He has also consulted for FEMA, the FBI National Academy, ATF, and U.S. Federal Air Marshals, and served as Senior Research Advisor to the Office of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait.

Everly has lectured and conducted research on the psychological aspects of disaster in more than 25 countries. His works have been translated into multiple languages, including Russian, Arabic, Swedish, Polish, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, German, Korean, and Spanish. His Coursera online class, "Johns Hopkins Psychological First Aid," is among the most viewed online courses in the field. Everly has received honors such as the Certificate of Honor from the Baltimore Police Department, the Honor Award from the American Red Cross, and the Maryland Psychological Association's Award for Scientific Contributions to Psychology. He was recognized as a Pioneer in Clinical Traumatology by the Traumatology Institute of Florida State University.

Everly is the author of more than 20 books on stress, psychological crisis intervention, disaster mental health, and human resilience. Notable titles include "A Clinical Guide to the Treatment of the Human Stress Response," "Psychotraumatology" (co-authored with Jeffrey Lating), and "The Johns Hopkins Guide to Psychological First Aid." His book "The Resilient Child" received ForeWord Magazine's gold medal for Book of the Year in Parenting, and "Stronger: Develop the Resilience You Need to Succeed" was named one of the year's top 10 business books by AMACOM. Everly maintains an international practice in entrepreneurship, executive, and leadership coaching, offering expertise in resilience, crisis response, and human performance across sectors.
