Dr. Howard Rankin Biography

Dr. Howard Rankin is a clinical psychologist, author, coach, and keynote speaker whose career spans academia, clinical practice, and public education in both Europe and the United States. Rankin holds master's and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from the University of London. He began his career at the Institute of Psychiatry's Addiction Research Unit, conducting clinical and research work, and later taught at the University of London and Oxford University. After a decade in academia, Rankin became a consultant clinical psychologist at St. Andrew's Hospital, where he worked in the addiction unit and led the eating disorders unit. He later moved to the United States, serving as clinical director of a behavioral health and wellness program before establishing his own practice, which incorporates neurofeedback and neurotechnologies.

Rankin has contributed to the fields of psychology, neuroscience, and behavior change through his extensive writing and research. He has authored 12 books, co-authored another 12, and ghostwritten 30 nonfiction works. Rankin has published more than 30 scientific articles on addiction and behavior change, served as a consultant to the National Institutes of Health and World Health Organization, and was editor of a major psychological journal. Notable works include "7 Steps to Wellness," "Inspired to Lose," which reached the Amazon.com bestseller list, and "Power Talk: The Art of Effective Communication." His book "Falling to Grace: The Art and Science of Redemption" was featured in Psychology Today magazine. Rankin has also written fiction, including the novel "Sherlock Holmes versus Artificial Intelligence: The Race to Solve a Murder Mystery."

Rankin's expertise extends into cognitive neuroscience and human decision-making. He hosts the podcast "How Not To Think" and authored "I Think Therefore I Am Wrong: A Guide to Bias, Political Correctness, Fake News and The Future of Mankind," which explores cognitive processes and rationalization. Rankin conducted one of the first public school projects in the United States using neurotechnology and collaborates with neurologists Dean and Ayesha Sherzai in the Healthy Minds Initiative to promote brain health.
