Tom Moroney

Tom Moroney is Boston bureau chief for Bloomberg News, which is based in New York and was founded by the city's mayor, Michael Bloomberg. Moroney manages a group of 20 reporters and editors assigned to various aspects of finance and investment as well as general news in New England. The Boston office also hosts guest from the world of finance and politics for appearances on Bloomberg TV and radio.

Moroney went to the company in 2004 to co-host its first political talk show, ``Simply Put.'' In 2007 and for a good part of 2008 he spent much of his time in New Hampshire to cover the national primaries. The show has traveled extensively to cover presidential politics both in 2008 and in 2004, including broadcasts of the presidential debates, conventions and Iowa caucuses.

Before joining Bloomberg, he was a commentator and reporter for the public television affiliate in Boston, WGBH-TV. He appeared on the nightly program, ``Greater Boston,'' hosted by Emily Rooney.

Moroney is co-author (along with his wife, Linda, and former NBA player Bob Bigelow) of ``Just Let The Kids Play” (Health Communications Inc. August 2001), a book that examines the problems in the world of youth sports and offers up models of reform. As a result of that, he became a commentator in sports violence for the Catherine Crier Show on Court TV.

Moroney has worked as a reporter for The Boston Globe and People magazine. He has also served as a columnist for a chain of daily and weekly newspapers in eastern Massachusetts, the Community Newspaper Co. There he won numerous writing awards for columns that focused on local, state and national issues.

He lives in Hopkinton, MA, with his wife and two sons. He graduated from Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, in 1977.
