Robert Rose

BTI’s fuel cell education program, Fuel Cells 2000, was launched in 1993 and is internationally recognized. Mr. Rose also directs the U.S. Fuel Cell Council, the business association for the fuel cell industry. Founded in 1998, the council has nearly 120 members.Mr. Rose is the author of Fuel Cells and Hydrogen: The Path Forward, which proposes a public-private partnership to develop and commercialize fuel cells and a supporting hydrogen infrastructure. He has many other writing and speaking credits and is a regular media source.

He is the 2004 recipient of the Fuel Cell Seminar Award, the most prestigious award of its kind in the U.S. In his acceptance speech, he challenged the industry to embrace a long-term, $60 billion strategy for fuel cell and hydrogen commercialization, supported by a “Freedom Fee” on conventional fuels, carbon dioxide or vehicle registrations.

The Breakthrough Technologies Institute is an internationally recognized conduit for fuel cell and hydrogen education through its Fuel Cells 2000 program. Fuel Cells 2000 is technology and fuel neutral, seeking only to educate people about the family of fuel cell technologies and their potential for society.

Fuel Cells 2000 programs include public education activities, monthly and quarterly publications, a comprehensive fuel cell directory, a career center, resources for science teachers, outreach to science museums, and many other offerings. Mr. Rose has made presentations to technical conferences around the world, and written articles on fuel cells for a wide variety of publications. He conducts frequent news media interviews and has appeared on dozens of national, regional and local television and radio talk shows and interview programs.

Mr. Rose became a private consultant in 1981 when he established Rose Communications, Inc., to serve a variety of public and private sector clients, specializing in policy analysis and public relations. Mr. Rose was Senior Special Assistant to Secretary of State Edmund S. Muskie in 1980, performing a variety of staff roles. He was Muskie's Senate press secretary from 1973 to 1980, responsible for media relations for the Senate Subcommittees on Environmental Pollution and Intergovernmental Relations.

From 1969 to 1973, Mr. Rose worked for United Press International in New England and previous to that position he edited Mutual of Omaha's magazine for top-level sales managers. Bob Rose received his Bachelor's degree in English and Philosophy from the University of Nebraska in 1968.
