Rev Sekou

Rev Sekou, a multifaceted social justice advocate, has been influential in various mediums ranging from music and literature to civil rights activism. He released "In Times Like These" in May 2017, a work that further cemented his presence in the music industry, having already produced the North Mississippi Allstars, a six-time Grammy-nominated group. His single, "We Comin'", was recognized by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch as the new anthem for the modern Civil Rights movement. Sekou's impact extends to literature as well, with five books set to be released by Chalice Press, a publisher renowned for progressive religious thought.

His scholarly endeavors have also been notable. Sekou served as a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University's Martin Luther King Education and Research Institute, where he contributed significant insights on the 2011 killing of Mark Duggan by British police and the subsequent London riots. Furthermore, Sekou was featured in Orlando de Guzman's 2015 documentary film, Ferguson: A Report from Occupied Territory and produced a documentary short film, "Exiles in the Promised Land," based on his visit to a refugee camp and lecture in Beirut, Lebanon. His lectures have been sought after by prestigious institutions such as Princeton University, Harvard Divinity School, and Vanderbilt University.

Sekou's passion for justice and peace is evident in his various roles in activism. He played a significant role in the Ferguson uprising, during which he was arrested multiple times. He has trained over five thousand activists in militant nonviolent civil disobedience throughout the United States. His efforts for global justice saw him serve as a delegate to the World People's Conference on Climate Change and the Rights of Mother Earth in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Following Hurricane Katrina, Sekou moved to New Orleans and founded the local Interfaith Worker Justice Center, and he co-led an interfaith delegation to Haiti after the earthquake. Recognized by Ebony Magazine's Power 100 and NAACP History Makers, Sekou's influence is undeniable.
