Neil Baldwin

His most recent book, The American Revelation: Ten Ideals that Shaped Our Country from the Puritans to the Cold War has been released to great success, deemed an “Editor’s Choice” by The Wall Street Journal.

Baldwin's previous book, Henry Ford and the Jews: The Mass-Production of Hate, was a finalist for the 2001-2002 National Jewish Book Award in History. His Legends of the Plumed Serpent: Biography of a Mexican God, the culmination of ten years of researching Mexican history, symbolism and iconography was chosen as one of the ten best nonfiction titles of 1998 by The Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune and Publishers Weekly.

In addition to his non-fiction writing, Baldwin is the author of three volumes of poetry, three textbooks, and acclaimed biographies on three highly influential individuals: To All Gentleness: William Carlos Williams, The Doctor-Poet, which received the “Hands Across the Sea Award” from the British-American Cultural Institute; Man Ray: American Artist and Edison: Inventing the Century, which was named one of the ten best books of the year by BusinesWeek.

His screenplay for the documentary Man Ray: Prophet of the Avant-Garde, based upon his book, appeared as part of the PBS American Masters series and was nominated for an Emmy Award. It received a Gold Hugo Award at the Chicago Film Festival. Baldwin is also the co-editor of a collection of interviews with National Book Award Winners, The Writing Life, and author of a collection of essays, National Book Award Classics.

Baldwin has taught literature and creative writing at the City College of New York, Hunter College, Baruch College, The New School University, Fordham University, and New York University. He was also Manager of the Annual Fund at The New York Public Library during "The Campaign for the Library." As co-director of the NYU Biography Seminar, he serves on the program committee for the 2008 annual meeting of the Organization of American Historians, and is a member of the National Arts Club literary committee and PEN American Center.
