Lepage, one of the few NASCAR drivers from New England, spent the 1980's driving in both the Busch North series and the Maine-based American Canadian Tour series. He drove with occasional success in these series for the better part of 14 seasons.Lepage became a Busch Series regular in 1994, serving as an owner/driver for two seasons with backing from the Vermont Teddy Bear Company. He would have success in 1996 after leaving his own team behind, which would culminate in a victory at Homestead-Miami Speedway and an 8th place finish in the championship.
After finishing 12th in the championship in 1997, Lepage made the move to Winston Cup in 1998, driving for a now-defunct small time team, LJ Racing owned by Joe Falk. Lepage showed occasional pace, but he was nonetheless let go at midseason. However, Lepage received a second chance from owner Jack Roush, who hired him to replace Ted Musgrave in his #16 car. Lepage would earn a pair of top 10 finishes in 13 races for Roush, with a best of 6th at Charlotte.
Lepage would drive two more seasons for Roush, earning a pole position at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 1999 and leading 18 laps en route to a 5th place finish at Texas Motor Speedway in 2000. His finishes of 25th and 28th in the championship, however, were not enough to stop him from being released from his contract after the season.
For the next three seasons, Lepage served as a replacement driver for various teams. Twice, he joined the Morgan-McClure Motorsports team in this manner. In 2004, the team decided to hire him on a full-time basis. A lack of results, however, caused Lepage to be released after 6 races.
Begging in the last half of the 2004 season, Lepage has driven for the unfancied RJ Motorsports team, a team which has struggled to be competitive. However, he surprised racing fans in 2005 with a 3rd place finish in his Gatorade Duel race, earning him an unexpected top 10 start in the Daytona 500. Not only would he start in the top 10, but he would finish there as well, to the surprise of even more fans. He joined Peak Fitness Racing later that year, qualified 6th at Kansas Speedway.
