Joel M. Podolny

Mr. Joel M. Podolny, PhD serves as Vice President of Apple's human resources department and the Dean of Apple University. Mr. Podolny has been with Apple since 2009. Mr. Podolny has been on the faculty of the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Prior to Apple, he was a professor and dean of the Yale School of Management from 2005 to 2008, and has also held various positions at Harvard University, including professor and director of research at Harvard Business School and professor of sociology in the Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences from 2002 to 2005. He also spent 11 years on the faculty of the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he also served as Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and was head of the school's organizational behavior group. Mr. Podolny has examined status dynamics in a variety of industries, including investment banking, semiconductors, shipping, venture capital, and the wine trade. In addition to his work on status, he has conducted research on the role of social networks in mobility and information transfer within organizations. Mr. Podolny serves as Member of Technical Advisory Board of Spoke Software, Inc. He served as a Member of advisory board at Greenwich Associates, LLC since October 20, 2006. He has been a Director of Lucile Packard Children's Hospital since April 2013. He serves as Member of Board of Advisors of The Yale School of Management. He served on the board of National Arts Strategies. He pursued his Ph.D. in 1991, A.M. in 1989, and A.B. magna cum laude, in 1986 from Harvard University.
