Jeffrey Rudman

Jeffrey Rudman is a senior partner in Hale and Dorr's Litigation Department. He has become a nationally recognized authority on defending shareholder class and derivative actions and the related tasks of defending Securities and Exchange Commission investigations and pursuing directors' and officers' insurance coverage. He chairs Hale and Dorr's Corporate and Securities Litigation Group. He has appeared in every edition of The Best Lawyers in America.

Mr. Rudman has represented numerous public or mutual companies and/or their officers and directors charged with various alleged misrepresentations or breaches of duty. These companies include: John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company, National Life of Vermont, The Savings Bank Life Insurance Company of Massachusetts, Allmerica Financial, Avid Technology, Iomega, Storage Technology, Shiva, National Medical Care, Ames Department Stores, Exabyte, Boston Technology, Viewlogic Systems, Arthur D. Currently, Mr. Rudman and Hale and Dorr have a leading role in the Section 11 "laddering" litigation pending in the Southern District of New York representing Akamai Technologies, Bottomline Technologies, McData, SilverStream Software, Network Plus, Proton Energy Systems, Optical Technology Group, Aspect Medical Systems, StorageNetworks, TeleCommunication Systems, Switchboard, Bookham, Net Perceptions, Breakaway Solutions, Radio Unica, Manufacturers Services, Be Free, Network Engines and Packeteer, among others.

In the last decade, Mr. Rudman has litigated several of the most highly publicized revenue recognition cases, including cases for Kurzweil Applied Intelligence, Sequoia Systems, Kendall Square Research, Cambridge Biotech, Centennial Technologies, PictureTel, Inso, Pegasystems, and Interspeed. He currently represents a former director of Enron and a former officer of Network Associates.

Two years ago, in the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, he won the landmark decision in the history of the Commonwealth on the business judgment rule, Harhen v. Brown, 431 Mass. 838.

Mr. Rudman lectures on securities litigation, insurance coverage, duties of disclosure and corporate governance throughout the country for organizations such as Nasdaq, Businesswire, American International Group, National Investor Relations Institute, CCBN, Glasser LegalWorks, Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS) and a variety of trading and brokerage firms.

Mr. Rudman, a graduate of Columbia College, received a J.D. degree from Harvard Law School, where he won the Ames Moot Court Competition. He spent two years as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, taking a first in the Honours School of Modern History.
