Jay Spencer

Working in various capacities within the real estate industry since 1983 has given Jay Spencer a unique insight. This insight translates into a fun and informative presentation that is all about developing your skills as a real estate practitioner. Jay has always been around teachers he even married one. From his first job as a camp counselor to now he has taught a variety of subjects. You can look forward to a current, engaging and fun class.

Jay holds a Michigan real estate brokers license, has the Graduate, REALTORs Institute (GRI) and At Home With Diversity designations.

Jay began his real estate career in 1983 working for a market leading title insurance company as a customer service representative and delivery driver. Over time he was promoted to a tax examiner and then a title examiner. During this time Jay learned how to research the history of properties and make sure there was a continuous ownership chain of title. Even more importantly, he learned what to do in those cases when there was a break in the chain of title.

Jay then went to a growing Western Michigan Title Agency that was embracing technology. Mono-chrome monitors and dot-matrix printers, all that worked only with from a central sever center. For this company Jay developed his sales skills by calling on REALTORS and Lenders showing them the advantages of technology in real estate. This is where he also learned to figure and facilitate residential and commercial closings. He later became an escrow branch manager for this company.

Jay later became the Branch Manager of two profit centers for a competing Title Agency. This is where he learned effective and efficient coaching and developing of a staff. In addition to the day-to-day management, staffing and P&L responsibility; Jay was also in charge of escrow and title departments in two counties.

In January, 1996 Jay received is real estate Salespersons license and his Associates Brokers License in March, 1998. During this time Jay has helped hundreds of families purchase and sell their homes. He also has secured commercial leases for contracted clients. Jay has become an expert at seeking zoning approval for clients land uses.

Additionally, he as bought, rehabbed, resold, managed, rented investment properties.

Wanting to use all of his experiences in real estate Jay began teaching the Michigan Pre-Licensing and Continuing Education for The Acme Institute. Jay has also developed and written a number of Continuing Education courses.

Jay has served the Grand Rapids Association of REALTORs, the former Barry-Eaton Board of REALTORs and the Ionia Board of REALTORs on the following committees and task forces: Governmental Affairs (also serving as Chairman), Technology, Professional Standards, Public Data Information, 2009/10 Business Planning, Forms, Affiliates and Annual Dinner. Jay has served numerous community organizations. This service was recognized by his peers in 2006 by being presented with the Grand Rapids Association of REALTORs Good Neighbor Pinnacle Award for service to our community.
