James M. Rosen

James M. Rosen is a prize-winning political correspondent based in the Washington, D.C., Bureau of McClatchy Newspapers, the nation's third-largest newspaper group with the Miami Herald, Kansas City Star, Fort Worth Star Telegram and 27 other daily papers. Many of his articles are also distributed to the 1,200 worldwide clients of the McClatchy Tribune Wire Service. He has won multiple National Press Club awards.

Rosen is a recognized expert on conservative politics, the rise of the tea party and the widening split within the Republican Party between hard-line conservatives and more moderate pragmatists. Among the prominent politicians he has covered and know well are the late Sen. Jesse Helms, Sen. Jim DeMint, Sen. Lindsey Graham, former presidential candidate John Edwards and House Assistant Democratic Leader Jim Clyburn, the highest-ranking African-American in Congress. Rosen has firsthand experience in the falling fortunes of the newspaper industry and can offer provocative insights on why journalism, which Thomas Jefferson called the fourth estate of democracy, is losing traction among Americans.

He is a former Moscow correspondent who chronicled the collapse of the Soviet Union. Among his major investigative work was a series on "loose nukes" -- poorly secured nuclear weapons in Russia -- and USDA discrimination against black farmers in the South.
