Georgia Witkin

As a FOX News Channel host and contributor, Dr. Georgia Witkin has given millions of Americans a better understanding of how to approach and overcome life’s struggles. A widely read columnist and author of 10 popular books–including “The Female Stress Syndrome,” “The Male Stress Syndrome,” and “Beyond Quick Fixes and Kidstress”–she is a favorite guest of such programs as “20/20″ and “The Today Show.” Witkin appears every Sunday night on “FOX Magazine” and is the psychology news analyst for “FOX and Friends.”

At the lecture podium, Witkin combines easy-to-understand scientific information with great humor. Incorporating true/false quizzes and checklists to warm up the audience, Witkin’s presentations are highly entertaining and interactive. As a Professor of Psychiatry and the Director of the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine Stress Program, she brings a wealth of research and advice to discussions about male stress, female stress and childhood stress. She shares practical strategies for dealing with common stress factors such as fear of failure, social anxiety and success distress, as well as topics like “moving up-burning out,” “the high price of sugar and spice” and “saving your own life.”

As a criminal justice educator for 14 years and a consultant to New York City Police and Fire Departments, Witkin often speaks to corporate boards about preparing for the worst and bringing out the best. As a CNBC regular for four years and a frequent guest on business news shows like Neil Cavuto’s “Your World” on FOX News, Witkin also frequently lectures about stock-market psychology and consumer behavior. Adding a personal element and motivational component to her presentations, Witkin discusses the coping mechanisms she learned from her mother, a six-time cancer survivor. After each illness, Witkin’s mother–a psychotherapist herself who trained renowned therapist Dr. Ruth–found yet another new way to embrace life, constantly re-creating a positive outlook during life’s most difficult experiences.

Witkin’s latest book, “It’s Not You, It’s Him” (Broadway, 2006) is designed to guide single women through the dating process and make it fun again: “We think about relationships, and talk about relationships, much more than single men do. And when things go wrong, we’re also much more likely to blame ourselves! It’s time to learn a dating strategy from men and assume that we’re perfectly lovable just as we are. If a date doesn’t agree, it’s not you, it’s him!”

At A Glance: Georgia Witkin completed her post-doctoral studies in behavioral genetics as a National Science Foundation Fellow at the New York State Psychiatric Institute, Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. She then joined the Department of Psychiatry at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, where she serves as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Director of the Stress Program and Assistant Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences.

She is a regular guest expert on “Imus on MSNBC” and has appeared on the “Oprah Winfrey Show,” “Good Morning America,” “CBS Evening News” and CNN. Witkin also has a role in “The Making of The Sopranos” and was consultant to the recent blockbuster film “Hitch.” She has been a contributing editor for New Woman Magazine and a guest writer for Parade magazine. Her columns have appeared in Health and Woman magazines, and her articles and comments on the pages of The New York Times, TIME, USA Today and Newsweek.
