Drew Westen, Ph.D Biography
Drew Westen, Ph.D. is a clinical, personality, and political psychologist and neuroscientist, and Professor in the Departments of Psychology and Psychiatry at Emory University. He is also the founder of Westen Strategies, a strategic messaging firm. He formerly taught at the University of Michigan and Harvard Medical School. Westen is the author of three books and over 200 articles, including The Political Brain: The Role of Emotion in Deciding the Fate of the Nation, which has influenced campaigns and elections around the world. He frequently comments on political and psychological issues on radio, television, and in print, including appearances on Anderson Cooper 360, The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, Hardball, Good Morning America, the Charlie Rose Show on PBS, and in opinion pieces in the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, CNN.com, and the Huffington Post. He has recently become an online columnist for the New York Times and writes for the Times’ Sunday Review. Westen has advised a range of candidates and organizations, from presidential campaigns to major nonprofit organizations such as the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Natural Resources Defense Council, to the Democratic Caucuses of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.
