Dr. Ashok Khosla

Since 1983 he has been Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Development Alternatives Group.  Headquartered in New Delhi, Development Alternatives was the first social enterprise worldwide set up to promote sustainable development.  It undertakes analysis of sustainable development options, innovation, manufacturing and marketing of technologies and products aimed at achieving sustainable livelihoods on a mass scale, development and dissemination of effective environmental management systems, design and advocacy of appropriate policies and institutions.  Its mission is to eradicate poverty through the creation of sustainable livelihoods.

Khosla is a member of various international and national boards and organizations. He is President of The Club of Rome and has been on the boards of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Worldwide Fund for Nature International (WWF), International Institute for Sustainable Development, the Alliance for a New Humanity, Stockholm Environment Institute and the Earth Council.

He has received numerous international awards, including the United Nations Sasakawa Environment Prize, the Schwab Foundation Outstanding Social Entrepreneur Award and the Challenge Award.

Khosla studied at Cambridge University and was a resident Tutor at Harvard University where he lectured on Experimental Physics, Natural Sciences, Astronomy and Environment.
