Dave Roberts

Dave Roberts is a Major League Baseball manager known for leading the Los Angeles Dodgers. Roberts previously played as an outfielder for five MLB teams, including the Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, San Diego Padres, and San Francisco Giants. Over his ten-year playing career, he accumulated 243 stolen bases and is widely recognized for a pivotal moment in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series, when he stole second base as a pinch runner for the Red Sox, helping to spark a comeback that led Boston to a World Series title.

After retiring as a player, Roberts began his coaching career with the San Diego Padres, serving as first-base coach and later bench coach. He was named the 32nd manager in Dodgers history and became the franchise's first minority manager. Roberts, the son of an African American father and a Japanese mother, is a UCLA graduate who holds the school's career record for stolen bases and is a member of the Bruins Sports Hall of Fame. In his first season as manager, Roberts led the Dodgers to a division title and was named National League Manager of the Year by the Baseball Writers' Association of America, joining Tommy Lasorda as the only rookie managers in Dodgers history to achieve a division title.

Roberts has guided the Dodgers to multiple division titles, postseason berths, National League pennants, and World Series championships. He made history as the first manager of Asian heritage and the second Black manager to win a World Series title. Under his leadership, the Dodgers set a franchise record for wins in a single season and became the first team in franchise history to win consecutive World Series championships. Roberts also became the fastest manager in MLB history to reach 1,000 career wins, joining Dodgers managers Walter Alston, Tommy Lasorda, and Wilbert Robinson in that achievement.

Roberts is a cancer survivor, having been diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, and is an advocate for cancer awareness. He serves on the Board of Directors at UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. Roberts is known for his leadership and focus on player development, emphasizing the importance of building trust and managing a diverse clubhouse. His approach has contributed to the Dodgers' sustained success in Major League Baseball.
