BOYS LIKE GIRLS Biography

Boys Like Girls is an American pop rock band formed in Andover, Massachusetts. The group consists of singer and guitarist Martin Johnson, bassist Bryan Donahue, drummer John Keefe, and guitarist Paul DiGiovanni, with Keefe and DiGiovanni being cousins. The band began performing in local venues along the Massachusetts coastline, developing their sound through live shows and early recordings. To promote their music, Boys Like Girls uploaded a demo of "The Great Escape" and an acoustic version of "Thunder" to PureVolume, which led to national exposure and recognition as PureVolume's Top Unsigned Artist.

Boys Like Girls achieved mainstream success with their self-titled debut album, which sold more than 700,000 copies in the United States and received gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. The album reached number 55 on the Billboard 200 and produced three singles: "Hero/Heroine," "The Great Escape," and "Thunder." "Hero/Heroine" was featured in the Nickelodeon TV movie "Spectacular!" and served as the theme for MTV's dating reality show "A Double Shot at Love." All three singles were certified gold, with "The Great Escape" later achieving platinum status. The band toured internationally, performing on the main stage of the Vans Warped Tour, headlining "Tourzilla," and co-headlining the Soundtrack of Your Summer Tour with Good Charlotte.

The group's second album, "Love Drunk," reached number one on the Top Rock Albums Chart and entered the top 10 of the Billboard 200. The album included the collaboration "Two Is Better Than One" with Taylor Swift and "You'll Always Find Your Way Back Home," which appeared in "Hannah Montana: The Movie." Boys Like Girls released their third studio album, "Crazy World," before entering a hiatus. During this period, Martin Johnson worked as a songwriter and producer, contributing to hits for artists such as Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Blink-182, Avril Lavigne, Jason Derulo, Daughtry, Christina Perri, Gavin DeGraw, and Pentatonix. Johnson also released two albums under his solo project The Night Game and toured with John Mayer.

"Sunday at Foxwoods" marked Boys Like Girls' first studio album since "Crazy World," representing the band's longest interval between releases. The current lineup includes Martin Johnson on vocals, Jamel Hawke on lead guitar, John Keefe on drums, and Gregory James on bass. The album's lead single, "Blood and Sugar," was the band's first new release in more than a decade. Boys Like Girls have accumulated over 500 million Spotify streams and have performed as openers for the Jonas Brothers on the Jonas20: Greetings from Your Hometown tour, as well as headlining their own tour in celebration of the anniversaries of their debut album and "Love Drunk." The band continues to produce new music, maintaining a presence in the pop rock and alternative music scenes.
